CourtCam VB is an app for recording a volleyball match with a live score overlay, using two phones: one running the camera, one keeping score.
There is no backend. We operate no server, we have no account system, and by default nothing you enter, record, or score is sent to us — or to anyone else. The sections below describe what the app stores on your phone, the few things that leave your phone only because you asked them to, and what control you have over all of it.
All of this stays on the phone unless you take one of the actions described in "What leaves your device" below.
If you connect a YouTube account and start a stream, the video and audio go directly from your phone to YouTube. They do not pass through us.
Recordings and box score exports leave the device only when you use Android's share sheet or a file manager to send them somewhere. You choose the destination. The app does not upload them anywhere on its own.
If you send a problem report from the app, it creates a file containing:
Personal information is removed as the file is created, not afterwards:
The report is written to a file and handed to Android's share sheet. Nothing is sent automatically; you choose where it goes, or cancel and the file is discarded.
The two phones exchange match state over Bluetooth Low Energy. This is a direct, local link between devices you control. It does not use the internet, and nothing is sent to us.
Android's automatic Backup service is turned off for this app. Nothing on your phone — not your match state, not your roster, not player photos — is ever copied anywhere automatically, by us, by Google, or by the operating system.
Instead, the app has a manual "Back up to Google Drive" action (Settings → Data), which you run yourself, whenever you choose. When you use it:
You are never prompted to do this, and the app never does it for you. If you never tap "Back up to Google Drive," no copy of your data leaves this device at all (except as described elsewhere in this policy — YouTube streaming, sharing a file, or a problem report).
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Camera | Recording the match, on the Recorder phone only. |
| Microphone | Recording audio with the video. |
| Bluetooth (advertise, connect, scan) | Linking your two phones so the Scorer and Recorder stay in sync. |
| Location (Android 11 and older only) | Older versions of Android require a location permission before an app is permitted to scan for Bluetooth Low Energy devices at all. The app does not collect, use, derive, or store your location. On Android 12 and newer, the Bluetooth scan is declared neverForLocation and no location permission is requested. |
| Internet | Only for optional YouTube live streaming and sign-in. |
| Storage (Android 9 and older only) | Saving recordings and exports on older Android versions. |
| Foreground service (camera, microphone, data sync) | Keeping the recording and the phone-to-phone link alive while the app is in the foreground of a match. A notification is shown whenever such a service is running. |
The app is used to record youth sports, so the information you enter is often about minors — jersey numbers, names, photos, and video of players.
You are responsible for obtaining whatever consent your club, league, or local law requires before recording or publishing video of minors.
There are none. No ads. No third-party analytics. No crash-reporting service. No tracking identifiers. No advertising ID.
We do not sell or share personal information, because we do not receive any.
If this ever changes, this policy will be updated before the change ships, and the app's Google Play Data safety disclosure will be updated to match.
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above changes with it, and any change that affects what data leaves your device will be published before the release that makes the change. Questions about a change can go to the contact address below.
